Psychologist and former professional magician Richard Wiseman – author of Quirkology – joins me for this edition of the show and indeed the magicast.

We discuss the way magic can be used to understand the human mind and why magic works as an entertainment, from the point of view of a man who has worked in both magic and psychology.

Richard was a fascinating guest and the podcast is a very good one indeed.

Speaking of podcasts, apologies for the delay in getting this episode and episode seven out. Between Resonance FM and myself, we’ve had several issues that have made podcasting rather challenging. I’m getting caught up now and will be up-to-date shortly.

Enjoy the show!

Paul Daniels was my guest on the show in this, the fifth podcast in the series. I know many of you have been waiting to hear this one, as Paul is a living legend of TV magic, having been on UK television for a total of 16 years with The Paul Daniels Magic Show and Secrets.

Paul was a complete delight to have on the show and we even had a quick impromptu chat with ‘The Lovely Debbie McGee’. To find out more about Paul, check out www.pauldaniels.co.uk or follow him on Twitter.

Bonus Video Podcast

I was working with the excellent collective of artists, musicians, producers and film makers known as Jammin’ Crew over the weekend and we made this short interactive magic video as a trailer to my website WorkingMagic.co.uk.

As well asplacing it on my website and YouTube, I thought I’d share it with you, dear listeners. Let me know if I get your card right…

The Magicast – Episode Four

icon for podpress  Smoke & Mirrors - Episode Four - Marc Paul [29:36m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

For this episode I was delighted to be joined in the studio by one of my magic heroes, performer Marc Paul. An amazing psychological entertainer, Marc and I discussed the art of mindreading, finding out where it came from and how Marc went from being a regular close-up magician to being the ‘World’s Greatest Mindreader’. We also look at performers like the Fox sisters and their spirit medium act and find out why Houdini dedicated so much of his time debunking spiritualists like them.

Julia also joins us with the magic news and as always, we’ll tell you where you can see magic in the capital this week.

The Magicast – Episode Three

Paul Kieve, the backstage wizard of stage and screen, joins us in the studio this week.

Although you may not recognise his work, you will almost certainly have seen his magic. For example, Paul taught magic to Daniel Radcliffe and the cast of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban as well as being magic consultant to director Alfonso Cuaron in order to produce some ‘real’ magic in the finished movie. We’ll be looking back through the ages at this side of magic and discussing some of Paul’s heroes, as well as his own illustrious career.

We also cover all the upcoming magic that’s happening in and around London in The Magic News.

Episode two of the mystical Smoke & Mirrors podcast (or Magicast as I’m calling it from now on) has arrived!

For this show, I’m joined in the studio by author, broadcaster and Member of The Magic Circle Brian Sibley. We pick up where we left off with Peter Lane last week, talking about the more recent history of magic. We look at some of the characters that have shaped modern magic including Chung Ling Soo and Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin, the father of modern magic. We also look at why London was one of the centres of magic in the world throughout the 20th Century and Brian will be talking about his collaborations with the magicians of cinema like Peter Jackson on Lord of the Rings.

As always, the lovely Julia will be here with the magic news and we’ll be telling you where you can see magic in the capital this week.

Tune in to 104.4FM here in London and online across the world at http://resonancefm.com/listen every Tuesday at 6pm GMT to hear the show live and again every Friday at 10pm GMT for the repeat.
