 The Final Episode of The Smoke & Mirrors Radio Show Magicast [30:13m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Having spoken about him in several prior episodes of The Magic News, I’m pleased to say that John Van Der Put joins us in the studio for this last episode of the Smoke & Mirrors Magicast.

John is a prolific creator of magic and mystery, as well as the artistic director of StandNotAmazed theatre company who create magical theatre and theatrical magic. John also has an alter ego who joins us (very briefly) in the studio known simply as Piff The Magic Dragon.

John and I discuss the creation of magic for theatre, his upcoming shows and the moment that Piff was born. John’s writing partner(!) also joins us briefly and we find the one thing that John and Barack Obama have in common. What a rip-roaring show it was!

After a great show earlier this evening with Fay Presto (which will be online soon), the gents at Resonance FM and myself had a chat and decided that it was best to put the last show back one week, to the 23rd June.

There’s a couple of reasons for this, mainly due to the fact that Resonance is having to undergo some emergency work on the studios for a week, starting on 15th June until 22nd June.

There’s also the fact that 16th June (when the show was originally due to go out) is the opening night of a new play that I’m performing in at The Union Theatre. For all the info, check out Upstart-Theatre.co.uk or MatthewDuggan.co.uk.

All of this means that moving the last show – with John Van Der Put as my guest – makes sense. So tune in to the show on 23rd June. In the meantime, check out all the previous episodes via iTunes or by clicking on Podcast Episodes.

Listen in to the show on Tuesday 5th May at 6pm GMT for a rip-roaring episode of Smoke & Mirrors on Resonance FM. I’ll be joined by mentalist and mindreader Marc Paul to discuss all things mental (well, in a magic sense at least).

Marc has been voted ‘World’s Greatest Mindreader’ and as well as discussing his remarkable skills, he will be sharing them with us by performing live in the studio.

Episode two of the mystical Smoke & Mirrors podcast (or Magicast as I’m calling it from now on) has arrived!

For this show, I’m joined in the studio by author, broadcaster and Member of The Magic Circle Brian Sibley. We pick up where we left off with Peter Lane last week, talking about the more recent history of magic. We look at some of the characters that have shaped modern magic including Chung Ling Soo and Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin, the father of modern magic. We also look at why London was one of the centres of magic in the world throughout the 20th Century and Brian will be talking about his collaborations with the magicians of cinema like Peter Jackson on Lord of the Rings.

As always, the lovely Julia will be here with the magic news and we’ll be telling you where you can see magic in the capital this week.
