I mentioned during the seventh episode of Smoke & Mirrors that I would post some videos of escapologist Jonathan Goodwin doing his thing on his show One Way Out on The Discovery Channel. I think you know what’s coming next…

We get all showbiz in this week’s show as we talk to Discovery Channel star and top escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, live on the phone from Los Angeles, California.

Jonathan is a top performer who is the feature performer on One Way Out – a show with death-defying escapes and mad science (including Jonathan escaping from handcuffs while trying to keep as still as possible to ensure the scorpion in his mouth didn’t try to maim him). I’ll post some of the videos of Jonathan from his show, but in the meantime, enjoy this excellent episode of the podcast from one of the loveliest people in the world of bonkers stunts and escapes!

I’m delighted to announce that the quite literally legendary Paul Daniels will be appearing on the show tomorrow, Tuesday 12th May.

Paul will be on the phone talking to us about TV magic and his glittering career. We’ll discuss the new wave of TV magic from the likes of David Blaine and Criss Angel as well as how magic is created for TV instead of for stage.

Episode two of the mystical Smoke & Mirrors podcast (or Magicast as I’m calling it from now on) has arrived!

For this show, I’m joined in the studio by author, broadcaster and Member of The Magic Circle Brian Sibley. We pick up where we left off with Peter Lane last week, talking about the more recent history of magic. We look at some of the characters that have shaped modern magic including Chung Ling Soo and Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin, the father of modern magic. We also look at why London was one of the centres of magic in the world throughout the 20th Century and Brian will be talking about his collaborations with the magicians of cinema like Peter Jackson on Lord of the Rings.

As always, the lovely Julia will be here with the magic news and we’ll be telling you where you can see magic in the capital this week.

We also trace the history of those things that are now synonymous with magicians; the white rabbit, the magic wand and the top hat and tail coat. There will also be the first episode of our regular Magic News feature, read by Julia Barnett.’
